About CreativEd Services
Our company began in 2003 as Kim Smith Consulting,
serving clients in healthcare and education. In 2008, we determined
that there was a need to expand our services and develop a variety
of creative educational resources for teachers in a number of disciplines.
In 2009, we officially became CreativEd,
and hope to expand our services in the years to come.
CreativEd is a sole proprietorship with a
number of partners, both organizational and individual professional
educators, who will be contributing to the products and services
that CreativEd provides.
The Executive Director of CreativEd Services is
Kim Smith. The
company is based in Orlando, Florida.
Kim L. Smith
Executive Director
Kim Smith began teaching Health Occupations
Education at Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, North
Carolina, in 1981. Back then there were no shortages of
health care workers, and it was difficult for students to fit
electives in their college-prep schedules. Kim soon discovered
that to keep her job, she needed to become active in recruiting
students. HOSA became the answer to Kim’s recruiting
needs, and her Health Occupations program flourished.
Through her sponsorship of a HOSA chapter,
Kim discovered that HOSA provided an opportunity for students to
stretch their learning and leadership potential. In 1985, one of her students was
elected as the National HOSA President, and in 1986, her parliamentary
procedure team became national champions. It turned out that
HOSA gave small town students a chance to succeed on a state and
national stage.
In 2000, Kim was named the State Advisor
for North Carolina HOSA, and served as the Health Occupations Education
Consultant at the Department of Public Instruction. In the eleven years she
served as state advisor, she continued to expand on HOSA opportunities
for students and to support the goals of local HOSA chapters. Kim
served both as Chairman of the HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors and
Director of Competitive Events, bringing new events to National
HOSA and supporting the changes that come with the growth of an
organization.
In 2002, Kim was named the Communications
Director of National HOSA, and in 2006 became the Assistant Director. She assists
in the management of HOSA’s national competitive events program,
convention services, website content development, technical assistance
to states, partnership development and three E-learning courses. She
is the author of the HOSA State Advisor Handbook, HOSA
Competitive Events Management Guide, and HOSA Competitive
Events Report. All three products are updated annually.
In addition to her work with HOSA and CreativEd Services,
Kim works part time at Walt Disney World as a facilitator of Youth
Education Series programs.
Kim is a Registered Nurse with a B.A.
in Psychology from Lenoir-Rhyne College and a M.Ed. in Curriculum
and Supervision from North Carolina State University. Her
medical experience includes practicing as a Registered Nurse at
the Medical University of South Carolina, the United States Air
Force Academy, Catawba Valley Regional Medical Center, Alexander
County Hospital, and Hospice.
Kim’s husband, Steve, is a high school Social Studies teacher
at Harmony High School in St. Cloud, Florida. They have two
daughters, Leslie and Mallory.
